National Park Regulations

Uganda Wildlife Authority is a body that is in charge of conserving the country’s natural heritage like animals, plants, physical features and ecosystems in general. It has set National Park Regulations that each visitor must follow. All persons that visit the Park must follow regulations set that apply to all the National parks in Uganda in order to stay safe.

The following Park regulations apply to most of the National Parks:

Do not:

Camp or make campfires except at official sites.
Exceed the speed limit of 40km per hour (25mph).
Drive off the tracks.
Disturb the wildlife by sounding motor horns.
Drive in the park between 7:30 pm and 6:30 am.
Bring dogs or other pets to the park.
Drop litter, especially cigarette ends or matches.
Bring firearms or ammunition into the park.
Pick flowers or destroy any vegetation.

Retain all official receipts for entrance, boat trips, fishing, etc. as you may need to show them at any time during your stay.

Gorilla Tracking Regulations.

Before you set out:

Do not visit the gorillas if you have a cold or other infectious illness.
Human waste should be buried 30cm (12″) deep
Maximum number of visitors is eight people per gorilla group

When you are with the gorillas:

Do not Smoke, eat and drink on the tour
If you must sneeze or cough cover your face and turn away from the gorillas; as they can catch coughs and colds from humans.
Maintain a one hour visit per gorilla group per day.
