A detailed itinerary of the 9 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park.
Early morning at 8:00 am drive to Akagera national park. Arrive in the afternoon and have Lunch. After that go for an afternoon boat trip at Lake Ihema expect to see crocodiles, hippos and a variety of bird species. Then return to the lodge for Dinner and overnight at Akagera game lodge. (B.L.D)
Day 2: Full day game viewing
Breakfast, go for an early morning game drive to see giraffes, rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes. Then return for hot lunch and relax at the lodge. You will then go for a night game drive. After that return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Akagera game lodge (B.L.D)
Day 3: Akagera to Volcanoes National Park
Have breakfast then go for a morning game drive, return for lunch after that drive to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali with a brief stopover at the genocide memorial site. Then proceed to Kinigi area for dinner and overnight stay at Kinigi guesthouse (B.L.D)
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
Take your breakfast with packed lunch and enough drinking water, head to the park headquarters to be briefed about the dos and don’ts while with the mountain gorillas. Then proceed to trek the gorillas in the bamboo forest. After the remarkable adventure with the gorillas, you will have lunch after that visit the twin lake Bulera and Ruhondo. Then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Kinigi guesthouse (B.L.D)
Day 5: Hiking Mt. Bisoke 3,711 Meters
Early breakfast then transfers to the Kinigi headquarters for a briefing. Hiking mount Bisoke takes one day and is a tough hike requiring good fitness. By 8.00 am you set off in your cars and transfer to the head trail starting point of the hike. From here you get hiking sticks, and it’s necessary to hire a porter to carry your backpack. After that return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Kinigi guesthouse (B.L.D)
Day 6: Lake Kivu and have boat cruise along the Lake
Breakfast, drive to Lake Kivu, have lunch and then go for a boat ride and visit the fishing villages. Overnight stay at Paradise Malahide (B.L.D)
Day 7: Transfer to Nyungwe forest
You will have breakfast, later drive to Nyungwe forest. Arrive in time for lunch. Relax the rest of the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura guest house (B.L.D)
Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking
After an early breakfast, you will then go for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. Nyungwe is a vast, mountain rain tropical forest over 1000 sq km in size. So this is home to 13 species of primates like silver monkeys, over 275 species of birds, 100 varieties of orchids. You will then track the chimpanzee alongside park rangers, spend an hour observing and taking photos. After tracking you then have lunch, dinner, and overnight at Gisakura guest house (B.L.D)
Day 9: Transfer back to Kigali
Finally, in the morning after breakfast, you will drive back to Kigali, en route you will visit the Nyanza Royal Palace, have lunch, and continue to Kigali to catch your flight back home.
